Based on user needs and industry skills, the evolution of customized solutions and the establishment of innovative services is accomplished through project activities. Focusing on various thematic areas, relevant information on the project activities is provided below.

TESHEALTH

Status date: 31 March 2012

The TESHEALTH project is dedicated to developing, implementing, qualifying and validating a telemedicine system promoting the use of satellite communications aimed at reducing the impacts of chronic diseases, improving life styles and empowering citizens to adopt a healthier behaviour.

CSS-SpaceMon

Status date: 21 March 2012

CCS SpaceMon aims at the integration of spaceborne Earth observation, navigation and communication to support the monitoring of future CO2 storage sites as part of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) technology. The monitoring plays an important role and is mandatory during operation but also after abandonment of such sites.

Land Border Control

Status date: 12 January 2012

The surveillance of borders is an essential function of a state, and is a topic that has gained increased concern in recent years. This study focuses on land border surveillance - a multifaceted and complex topic touching on some of the most critical security challenges of the moment.

SSMART

Status date: 30 November 2011

The SSMART project will provide solutions for monitoring and managing multimodal (road, rail, waterways) transports of dangerous goods. Integrating and using available space technologies (satellite navigation, satellite communications, earth observation) with terrestrial systems SSMART will improve safety, coordination, information exchange, and communication for both routine transport operations as well as for emergency situations.

INTOGENER Feasibility Study

Status date: 08 November 2011

INTOGENER is a feasibility study for the implementation of a water flow monitoring and prediction system aimed at hydropower production and water management organizations. The study is supported by ENDESA, a Spanish utility with a leadership position in South America.

ISIDE

Status date: 27 September 2011

The project ISIDE intends to develop, implement and validate a satellite based system of NCinema (N for networked), oriented at providing a range of services and applications in the field of D- (Digital) and E- (Electronic) Cinema. Over a period of two years, the project realises a permanent validation platform for N-Cinema, in order to cover the complete representation of the relevant service value chains. The objective will be to validate and promote different forms of exploitation of the theatres, ranging from featuring digital movies, digital advertising and alternative contents to live events, shows in virtual reality and interactive applications.

GrapeLook

Status date: 17 August 2011

This project focuses on the operational monitoring of crop water and nitrogen use of vineyards in the Western Cape province of South Africa. Based on the daily management of irrigation water resources and on-farm nitrogen by means of satellite remote sensing technologies, satellite communications and satellite positioning the project aims to assist various end-users.

CSP-FoSyS-FS

Status date: 15 June 2011

Concentrating solar thermal power plants with an electricity production of up to 250 MW have to be integrated into the electricity grid. Both day-ahead and intra-day forecasting of the production and therefore direct solar irradiance forecasting is needed. The feasibility study investigates a production forecasting service using numerical weather prediction and satellite-based nowcasting. It will prepare the setup of a demonstration solar production forecast system for the Andasol-3 power plant in Spain.

sahel

Status date: 06 May 2011

The SAHEL initiative is a demonstration project for telemedicine service in Sub-Saharan Africa. The project will define and implement an operational pilot system connecting some isolated areas in both Western and Eastern countries of the Sub-Saharan region with medical centres of excellence for clinical services and eLearning. It is the first building block of a large pan-African network for telemedicine, in line with the TTF (Telemedecine Task Force) objectives.

SPACEGRID

Status date: 10 November 2010

The aim of the study is to promote the integration of state-of-the-art satellite telecommunication and Earth observation technologies with power grid management systems. The activity is carried out by Carlo Gavazzi Space SpA in close collaboration with TERNA SpA , the primary owner of the Italian National High Voltage Electricity Transmission Grid (NTG), with nearly 60 thousand km of lines throughout the national territory.
