ProvDMR will be positioned as the world’s most accurate and comprehensive at-scale, above-ground carbon sequestration and biodiversity management platform for rangelands. Customer Needs
The potential for generating nature-based credits from grasslands is a multi-billion Euro opportunity, but it is currently limited by poor monitoring, reporting and verification capabilities compared to forest-based projects. In addition, the potential to monitor and report the improvement of biodiversity in the world’s grasslands will allow nature-based project owners to create greater integrity and higher value than for carbon off-set only. Organisations requiring monitoring of grassland at scale for nature-based projects include specialist project owners, natural capital investors, governments and NGOs, agricultural firms seeking to diversify and generate revenue from their land, and carbon and nature-based credit insurers.
Proveye customers’ involvement in nature-based projects will result in the issuing of credit (e.g. carbon, biodiversity, soil restoration), or investment from the natural capital industry as part of an ESG agenda, and social or environmental additionality using grasslands and/or peatlands. This monitoring must be reliable, accurate, frequent and replicable over vast areas. Existing manual methods are time-consuming, unreliable, and do not scale. Companies in the nature-based credit market require timely and trustworthy data to support claims, which in turn depends on accurate, reliable monitoring of biomass and human activity at scale. In addition project managers, farms and land owners involved in these projects require digital support tools to help them manage the performance and derisk Nature-based solutions.
Service/ system concept
ProvDMR Service and information will be delivered at three levels to user:

Initial Dashboard Level
This will display the name of one to many projects that are of interest to the user and will include for each project the volume of area covered, the status of carbon sequestration, biodiversity, risk alerts and last update

Project Level
Here the user will see an overall view of the project they selected at the Login stage. Data and insights delivered here will include:- Details insights on continuous carbon and biodiversity measurement
- Line graph detailing baseline, current and predictive performance of the project
- Break down of risk alerts
- Break down of land cover performance indicators across time:
- Area of bare soil
- Grass
- Scrub
- Trees
- Fire
- Grazing activity
- Colour coded map of the entire project and its constituent areas of interest

Parcel Level
Here the user can select a parcel area from the project and drill down into specific performance and risk so that precise corrective action can be taken to minimise the performance of the overall project area. Parcels are usually defined by set management units within a project
Space Added Value
The specific ESA space technology and assets that will be used start with Sentinel 1 & 2, which will be the core datasets used. The time series pixel values of the imagery will be used to derive biomass dry matter (t/ha) and other KPIs related to customer requirements. Proveye can also leverage its own proprietary photogrammetry software to process and use UAV imagery where required as an additional very high resolution data source.
The value added of ProvDMR will be related to the almost unlimited spatial coverage provided by these space assets. ProvDMR will be designed to be deployed anywhere at significantly lower operational costs relative to a ground-based validation, with high temporal frequency from 10-365 days, data redundancy for a robust solution. The platform will be able to scale from 1 ha to global terrestrial land area (14,832,600,000 ha) and have an ability to incorporate new space technologies, and a wide range of interpretation options including biomass, fire, stocking density, grazing activity, distribution of nitrogen-fixing vegetation, change in woody biomass, biodiversity, ecosystem health, and human activity.
Current Status
Several test sites have already been selected in Ireland, Kenya, Ethiopia, South Africa, Botswana, and Zambia with more to be onboarding in the coming months. The team have begun to develop a UI based on customer feedback and questionnaires and that UI is now being tested with potential customers across our key market segments.
Biodiversity and landcover tools have begun development, with full scale testing now underway. The platform will be linked to Proveye’s satellite data acquisition tool, ProvSAT, so that automated and systematic image data can be made available to the ProvDMR tools and models.
Future Plans
The team will continue to onboard new project areas throughout the world as part of customer pilot trials. We are continuously engaging with potential customers with a view to converting these conversations into pilot trials and beta customers. The team will continue to build up information of customer and user needs and wants through the use of questionnaires and face to face meetings at conferences and events.
