SPACE FOR LOGISTICS AND RESILIENT INFRASTRUCTURE TASK FORCE
Addressing the challenges of the logistics sector
The European Space Agency has unveiled the “Space for Logistics and Resilient Infrastructure” Task Force, a groundbreaking initiative designed to help European industries harness space technologies to address concrete sustainability, efficiency and resilience challenges in logistics.
The official announcement took place at the 'Leaders in Logistics' Summit in Brussels on March 18, 2026, together with ALICE representatives.
The Task Force comprises a wide range of leading players across this broad sector with the shared objectives of:
- Fostering the development and demonstration of sustainable space-based technologies and applications to support the digitalisation of the logistics sector, as well as resilience of infrastructures;
- Facilitating awareness of space-based solutions addressing the logistics and the related infrastructure ecosystem and boost their impact within the sector.
Benefits
Within the Task Force, several challenges will be addressed where space applications can be instrumental, such as digitalising and optimising goods tracking and monitoring, improving delivery efficiency, last mile deliveries, autonomous solutions, planning sustainable infrastructure, and boosting the resilience of transport networks including the supply chains.
International regulations will serve as a guiding framework for new applications and services and the Task Force will leverage the guidance and experience also of ALICE as European Technology Platform (ETP) for logistics innovation. Safety, resilience and security of critical infrastructure – including supply chain - will remain central theme, with the Task Force also working to promote cross-industry dialogue and provide a platform to scale up sustainable solutions powered by space data and technology.
The Task Force will consolidate the needs and requirements of the stakeholders, and will promote, through ESA BASS fundings, the development of innovative and commercially sustainable solutions that highlight social, economic, and environmental benefits for the members and overall logistics sector.
Collaboration amongst Task Force members will target also enhanced sustainability and resilience within the sector’s infrastructure, drawing from the collective expertise and discussions of participants.
