According to FAO by 2050 the world’s population will reach 9.1 billion and in order to feed this larger population, food production must increase by 70%. Annual cereal production will need to rise to about 3 billion tonnes from 2.1 billion today and annual meat production will need to rise by over 200 million tonnes to reach 470 million tonnes [source].

The development of capabilities in order to counteract CBRNe (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and explosive) threats is one of the priorities area in the field of security and emergency response. A lot has been done in this context but several gaps are still present when it comes to prevention, preparedness, response and recovery from both  accidental and  intentional CBRNe events.
